Caring For Your Newly Hydroseeded Lawn

Jan 11

After your grass has received hydroseeding CT, the real work starts. You will need to give your newly hydroseeded lawn a bit of TLC.

What can I do to get the best results from hydroseeding?

  • Hydroseed needs to be watered three times per day for 10-20 mins each time.

  • The green color will fade in 2-7 days.

  • Watering should be done between the hours of 4:00 a.m. 4:00 and 11:15 a.m. (Remember to drink water after dark).

  • You can adjust the amount of water you use depending on the weather and season. You should water more often and over longer periods of time. You may also apply less frequent watering during autumn months that are cooler, and for shorter durations.

  • Hydroseed must be kept moist in order to grow properly. The soil doesn't need to be completely saturated all the time.

  • Do not pour areas of water on your lawn; instead, keep the seed damp and moist at all times. You can reduce how often you water your lawn in the next 4-6 weeks.

How can you keep hydro seeds healthy?

With adequate germination, the germination process will begin in some places within 10-14 days, and the lawn will be prepared for mowing in 6-8 weeks. In 6-9 months, the lawn will have developed fully.

For the first six weeks, do not drive within the areas that are planted.

Due to the various levels of sun, shade, and water, some areas will come in much more than others during the beginning weeks. This is normal with all applications of hydroseed. After about 4 weeks, the lawn will begin to fill up. It's worth scraping up any thin areas and seeding them with a hand. Mix fescue and rye together with Kentucky bluegrass for the most effective results.

You are highly advised to apply an 18-24-12 beginning fertilizer on your lawn for two weeks after hydroseeding it. An additional starting fertilizer application is possible three weeks following that application. In the first 10-12 weeks, don't apply any weed control to the lawn.

You may find weeds on your lawn. Once your grass has matured, you can use a weed control fertilizer to get rid of the weeds.

The first time you mow your lawn will take place approximately 5 weeks after the lawn was hydroseeded. It is best to cut the grass once it's dry and use a push mower. This can prevent the seedlings from being damaged. Before you begin mowing, suspend water for a couple of days to allow the soil to completely dry. The clippings should be left on the grass, but clumps should not be put on the lawn because they could harm the new seeds.

Don't let your lawn grow to an excessive height. Then, you must cut your lawn to a reasonable height. This will injure your grass and make it difficult for you to return it to its original form. If you're on vacation, or can't cut your lawn for more than one week, then you must employ a professional to handle it. Do not cut down your lawn over 1/3 of its length in a single mowing. If it is becoming overgrown it is best to wait for 4-5 days before mowing it down to a height of about 3".

We will come back to you to reseed your Hydroseeding Connecticut area for a fraction of the cost if it is lost to the rain or any other weather condition.
