Claremont: Front Yard Landscaping Requirements

March 03, 2021

The Community Improvement Division would like to remind residents that we have a regulation that requires front gardens to be built with at least 50% living plant material. This requirement can be met by planting drought tolerant crops, ground cover, trees and shrubs that can withstand fluctuating weather and drought conditions. The remaining 50% must be covered with a permeable material such as decomposed granite, bark, mulch or gravel. This type of material allows for less erosion and better groundwater retention. The Community Improvement Division enforces the ordinance to ensure the community stays beautiful and property values stay high. In partnership with the Golden State Water Company, discounts are available in the Metropolitan Water District for lawn removal and landscaping.
