Landscaping companies pick up litter in Warren County
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – 75 bags of rubbish at two tenths of a mile – that much rubbish wasn’t picked up on the Veterans Memorial Highway until Tuesday afternoon.
Trash in Warren County has become a problem during the pandemic.
In the past, it was picked up by a prison program where non-violent inmates serving state sentences collected trash during the day. However, with COVID-19 this program was stopped.
This is where landscaping companies come in, and it’s a win-win situation for the community and businesses.
“We signed up for it because there is not much mowing or landscaping in winter. This means that we and some of the employees who work for me have something to do in winter. The money flows year-round, “said Wesley Moyers, owner of WDM Moyers Lawncare.
The landscaping companies were officially hired privately by the county to keep picking up the trash. In the past four weeks they have collected over 1,200 bags, making the city look cleaner.
“People on the state roads drive in and out of Warren County to work and stuff. In my opinion it just looks bad when there is rubbish all over the street and they drive through and see it and then maybe go to their home and see that it is clean. So it’s nice to help and pick it all up and try to keep Warren County clean, ”Moyers said.
District officials said the community has already commended the contractors for keeping the roadsides clean.
“The biggest positive feedback is that we can now actually say to the citizen calling, ‘Yes, we can take someone there. “While we didn’t really have a program for that before,” said Josh Moore, director of public works.
The other landscaping company hired to handle the garbage collection is Affordable Lawn Care.
