Man doing landscaping killed by rolling vehicle at Banks Peninsula property

A man died after a vehicle rolled down a driveway and shut him down while landscaping.

Ambulance was called to the fatal incident on Bayview Cres in Duvauchelle near Akaroa at around 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

The 53-year-old man was doing landscaping on a property when he was hit by an unoccupied vehicle that rolled down a driveway, a police spokeswoman said.

Members of the public tried to save him, but he died on the scene, she said.

A Bayview Cres resident told Stuff that one of the members tried to help the man with a defibrillator in the ward.

The death is not treated as suspicious and referred to the coroner.

WorkSafe has also been notified.
