National award for ‘exquisite’ landscaping

Queenstown’s Diva Landscapes received a national award for their garden maintenance and management in one of Sir Michael Hill’s homes.

The Landscape of Distinction Awards, hosted by Registered Master Landscapers New Zealand, were announced in Christchurch on Saturday evening.

Wakatipu Company won first prize in maintenance and management for its work at Arrowtown’s The Lodge at The Hills, adjacent to Sir Michael’s private The Hills Golf Course.

The judges commented that Diva Landscapes installed and managed the exquisite vegetation on the property, and a decade after installing Suzanne Turley’s design, the bold mass perennial planting still looks fabulous.

The irrigation, plant management and care were of the highest order, and with Diva’s monitoring of plant health and growth, the plant combinations were “flowering and indeed fascinating,” the judges said.

” We have a new company on the Register of the Registered Master Landscapers Awards for excellence in landscape management. ”

There were five landscape entries from Alexandra and Cromwell companies that won gold medals, notably Cromwell’s Southern Landmarx which received three – two for the Clutha River Views residence (construction and horticulture) and one for the Dunstan Vista residence.

Golds also went to Alexandras Weka Landscaping Ltd for the Reid residence and Cromwell’s Lakes Landscapes for Lowburn Terrace.

The New Zealand Countryside Top Prize in 2021 was Humphreys Landscaping for his entry into the Herne Bay House, which won first place in the First Honors category in all three categories of Construction, Design and Horticulture.
