The Four Seasons Total Landscaping saga is getting its own documentary

Mank has another great day on the way to the Oscars – just like Netflix.

Film nominations for the 2021 Critics Choice Awards were announced on Monday, and Netflix’s Mank led with 12 nods, including Best Picture. In fact, four of the best picture nominated films – Mank, Da 5 Bloods, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and The Trial of the Chicago 7 – are Netflix films that Variety reports hold the record for most nominations for best picture of all time breaking out of a studio in a single year at the Critics Choice Awards. In film and television, Netflix received a whopping 72 nominations.

The other best picture nominees were Minari, News of the World, Nomadland, One Night in Miami, Promising Young Woman, and Sound of Metal. In addition to winning more Oscars momentum, Minari did quite well with 10 nominations that Gold Derby called a “coup” for the film. On the other hand, Judas and the Black Messiah and Father were among the films The Hollywood Reporter found didn’t get a boost because they weren’t in Best Picture.

In the acting categories, previous award-season leaders like Chadwick Boseman were re-recognized at the Critics Choice Awards. Additionally, some artists recently caught at the Golden Globes also received nods, including Delroy Lindo from Da 5 Bloods, Zendaya from Malcolm & Marie, News from Tom Hanks of the World and Ben Affleck from The Way Back. That doesn’t necessarily guarantee they’ll be back in the Oscars race, however. 2020 critics also recognized a few favorites that were ultimately snapped at the Oscars, including Lupita Nyong’o for Us.

When it comes to the best-picture field, however, pundits expect some overlap between the Critics Choice Awards lineup and the Oscars picks to be announced next month. Read the full list of nominees for the Critics Choice Awards here. Brendan Morrow
